The latest lumbar support seating system developed for underground mine employees operating loaders and haul vehicles is resulting in reduced incidents and fatigue.
Perth-based Modern Motor Trimmers (MMT), which specialises in suspension car seats and seating products to the mining industry, has invested over five-years developing the pneumatically-operated twin air lumbar seat support.
The two-stage lumbar assistance system is integrated into the backrest of the premium-quality T back seats. It uses the air supply from the seat's built-in air compressor or even the machine's air supply to totally inflate, supporting the operator's lumbar region and creating a buffer against shock and jarring.
MMT is setting up the lumbar system into the premium quality ISRI seating range, presently the only product on industry to own an adjustable back rest that may be angled for increased operator comfort and support.
Managing Director Garry Spouge, who started MMT in 1992, said the company had refined and began to supply the innovative seating product within the previous 12 months, as demand for safer and more comfortable seating technology in the underground mining sector had grown.

Mr Spouge asserted MMT got previously researched and produced a similar T backed seats for underground exploration equipment, but the prototype did not provide an adjustable lumbar support.
"We're truly pleased about our newest design and currently the feedback we've gained is that it is reducing injuries and tiredness.
"And in addition to increasing operator comfort and security, it also increases seat life by reducing deterioration and encouraging correct healthy posture," he added
MMT's central market is the supply, installation and preservation of premium headgear seats and seating products to the mining, building, construction, engineering and transport sectors.
