When my spouse and children recently embarked on a redesign project for our den, we chose to add GU10 four inch recessed lighting fixtures at various spots along the ceiling to provide for highlight, ambiance and task lighting.

So we acquired six of these undersized light fixtures and set about installing them. Once all lights were in place and the electrician had done his work, we were all set. About 2 months after we had set up the lights, one of them went dark. Sure enough, the circuit checked out fine and we were left with two $6 dead bulbs after only two short months of service. At this rate, I, realized any money saved on the decision to go with the GU10 halogen fixtures was sure to be otherwise unused in bulb replacement costs. At this instance, the electrician told me of the presence of super long life, ultra efficient LED bulbs that were produced as a replacement for the rapidly failing halogen GU10's I had just witnessed succumbing to a premature (and expensive) death.
To my amazement I was able to find many different options of LED based GU10 replacement bulbs to cater to my needs. It has been 8 months since I started using the LED replacement bulbs and these little wonders, and with that said, I'm quite duly impressed. Not only do they give off clean, natural light (if I didn't know better I would think it was an incandescent based light source), but I can tell a difference the amount of heat emitted by the bulb.
I can actually hold right up to light bulb and only really feel a slightly lukewarm lens cover. By contrast, the halogen based GU10 bulbs would literally create a scalding burn after only a few seconds of contact.
I can frankly say, I'm definitely glad I asked the help of the electrician that day and was even more glad that I've found these excellent little LED light bulbs.
